Niche Site Project 2 – December 2019 Update
This project had some amazing changes that can be 100% attributed to adding the right content at the right time. This site focuses on the personal finance/budgeting niche and, with December marking the end of the year, I released a couple of posts targeting those who are setting new financial goals for 2020.
While organic traffic to this blog has been growing, in spite of me not adding much content to it at all over the past 6 months, this surge of income is really making me think that my main focus should be shifted towards this blog.
Of course, I don’t know what kind of RPM’s this site will settle into once thigs “reset” from the holiday highs. Let’s get into the income report for December though!
Project Dashboard
This dashboard still needs some love. I truthfully haven’t put much time into it because I have not focused on that site. That is going to change so, next month, look forward to an updated dashboard with a lot more data.
As you can see, this site only has 58 posts. Honestly, most of those posts aren’t very good.
I mean, the content is OK but it isn’t stellar. The majority of the posts were written by writers I hired to create the content before I joined P24 and learned what content I should be creating.
RPM values here are skewed because I didn’t add ads until December 20th. Before then I was making pennies on Google Adsense.
Content
The content on this site is old. I purchased the domain back in March, added a bunch of content, and then the site sat until recently.
The post breakdown is as follows:
- 3 posts published this month (December)
- 1 post published in September
- 3 posts published in June
- 51 posts published between March – May
Traffic
Looking at traffic this month, we can see that things did really well.
The big blue bumps represent pins that went “viral”. I don’t know if or how that relates but, organic traffic starts picking up towards the end of the month too.
The most exciting thing to come from the traffic this month is that this site should now qualify for Mediavine (second sites only need 10,000 sessions). Once Mediavine goes live, I should see an increase in income.
Can you say 300% growth! In one month!
When I started trying to figure out how to “blog” as a job, I was crazy excited about some of the results the bloggers post on their income reports. I mean, they sound great but unattainable.
This month, I can totally see how that could happen for a new blogger. It really is a combination of factors including putting in the work and publishing and pinning the right content at the right time.
Income
Remember, as always this is an income report and not a profit report.
WOW to the RPM’s this site brought in this month!
Just the past couple of days the site has easily earned $50 a day with little traffic.
For the first part of the month the site had only Google Adsense ads. From the first through whenever Ezoic turned ads on, sometime on December 20th, I earned a total of $34.23 from Adsense.
Ezoic had that beat in just two days. Now, I am pretty much seeing that number daily. I am still in shock!
The great thing about Ezoic is that they accepted this site before the site reached the 10,000 sessions Mediavine requires for a second site. (They require 25,000 sessions for your first site with them). Check them out using this affiliate link.
This made a big difference in income for me. While I love Mediavine, I am so glad Ezoic was there to take this blog to the next level now.
Goals
For this site my 2020 goals are as follows:
- Add at least 10 new articles each month.
- Continue to increase traffic month over month.
To help me reach my traffic goals, I have hired a Pinterest account manager. This site is very highly Pinterest driven and I can’t do all of the things I do alone.
Since this site can pay her monthly fee now, it makes sense to reinvest that money into where I am most likely to see the best results.
